Top 5 Normal Type Pokemon in Pokemon Go (Based on CP)

Normal-Type Pokemon are the most common type of Pokemon in Pokemon Go. While Normal-Type Pokemon aren't very effective against many Pokemon, they only have one weakness (to Fighting-Type Pokemon) which make them fantastic gym defenders. The best Normal-Type Pokemon in

Pokemon Go have strong Stamina and Defense stats, which are able to wear down gym attackers by simply attrition.

If you're curious as to which Normal-type Pokemon are the strongest in Pokemon Go, we've listed the five strongest Normal-Types in the game based on CP.

5) Tauros

Max CP: 2488

Best Moveset: Tackle/Earthquake

If you live in North America, you probably stumbled across a high CP Tauros during your first days playing Pokemon Go

. Tauros is a decent Pokemon for low level players thanks to its above average Attack and Defense stats, but its weak moveset prevents it from having much play later of the game. Tauros's charge attacks are especially lacklusters, especially as only one of its potential charge moves is a Normal-Type attack that gets a same type attack bonus (Horn Attack, with a piddly DPS of 27.7.)

4) Porygon2

Max CP: 2546

Best Moveset: Hidden Power/Hyper Beam

Porygon2 has the base stats to be a viable gym attacker....if it wasn't a Normal-Type Pokemon. With above average Attack and Stamina stats, Porygon2 can deal out and absorb a fair amount of damage, but there's simply too many other Pokemon that get the extra benefit of using attacks that can dish out super effective damage to defenders. At least Porygon2's ideal moveset are both Normal-Type attacks, so it gets the extra same type attack bonus to get a little extra oomph when battling.

3) Ursaring

Max CP: 2760

Best Moveset: Counter/Hyper Beam

With one of the top Attack stats in the game and an above average Stamina stat, Ursaring actually has some viability as a gym attacker in

Pokemon Go, especially when armed with Hyper Beam. Ursaring also has the potential for a decent Fighting-Type moveset, which could be useful clearing out Pokemon like Blissey or Snorlax from gyms.

2) Blissey

blissey

Max CP: 3219

Best Moveset: Pound/Dazzling Gleam

Blissey has the highest Stamina stat in the game, which means it can absorb more damage than any other Pokemon in Pokemon Go...and that's without factoring in its top tier Defense stat. Blissey has a ton of HP and can literally outwait gym attackers that don't have strong enough Pokemon in their party. Blissey is a must-have Pokemon if you want to keep your local gym under control, as it'll frustrate opponents no matter whether its the first or last Pokemon they encounter.

1) Snorlax

Max CP: 3355

Best Moveset: Zen Headbutt/Hyper Beam

Snorlax actually has lower Stamina and Defense stats than Blissey, but its significantly higher Attack stat gives it a higher CP. Snorlax is just as dangerous as a defender as Blissey, especially if it has Hyper Beam as its charge move. Get ready to dodge whenever Snorlax attacks, or otherwise you'll lose a Pokemon or two while wearing it down during gym battles.
